Birchbox Review September 2024

Birchbox

Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that sends samples (and sometimes full sizes) of new and exciting beauty products from top brands. Despite being out of the game for a minute, the subscription is back! Birchbox is one of the original beauty subscription boxes and is a great way to discover new makeup, hair care, and skincare products (four to six items every month) without breaking the bank.

This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box — the value and sample sizes are amazing. Just like Ipsy, Birchbox sends out many different variations of their bag each month — so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).

First Impressions

This month's theme is ''Best Tressed.'' I'm interested to see what type of products have been included!

Now, on to the items!

ONEKIND Dream Cream Nighttime Moisturizer, 10 ml - Estimated Retail Value $8.00

I’m a big fan of OneKind products, and their Dream Cream Nighttime Moisturizer is no exception! I’ve used it a few times before, and it’s consistently delivered impressive results. Right now, we’re dealing with a heatwave on the West Coast, so I’m holding off until the cooler weather hits, but this is definitely my go-to moisturizer for fall and winter. It’s a rich, luxurious cream that’s perfect for overnight hydration; exactly what my skin needs at night. The formula is super gentle, never clogging my pores, and I wake up with skin that feels hydrated, soft, and buoyant. It’s a true win for anyone needing some serious overnight moisture.

[COMFORT ZONE] Hydramemory Light Sorbet Cream, 8 ml - Estimated Retail Value $9.20

Even though the sample size of the [Comfort Zone] Hydramemory Light Sorbet Cream was smaller than expected, I’m loving it so far. This cream has been a great addition to my makeup routine, thanks to its unique cream-gel hybrid texture. It absorbs quickly like a gel, but it’s much more hydrating than many of the gel-based moisturizers I’ve used in the past. The lightweight formula feels perfect for layering under makeup, and while it does have a light scent, it’s subtle enough that it doesn’t bother me. Overall, it’s been a pleasant surprise, and I’m definitely loving the balance of hydration and lightness.

RODIAL Vit C Brightening Cleanser, 20 ml - Estimated Retail Value $7.26

I’m always on the lookout for a great cleanser, and the Rodial Vit C Brightening Cleanser is an absolute yes for me. It has a gel texture that feels so refreshing, and although it doesn’t lather much, it leaves my skin feeling thoroughly clean without any dryness or tightness. The scent is light and refreshing, never overpowering, which is a big plus in my book. What really sold me on this cleanser is how gentle the Vitamin C formulation is; it gives me that brightening boost without any irritation, which is a rarity for my sensitive skin. Bonus points for the sleek packaging too.

VITAMASQUES Rose Petal Jelly Toner, 30 ml - Retail Value $20.00

The Vitamasques Rose Petal Jelly Toner has quickly become a favorite in my skincare routine! While I’m not usually a fan of rose-scented products, this one fades so fast that it doesn’t bother me. The real standout of this is the texture. It’s so easy to apply without needing a cotton round, making it perfect for travel or a quick skincare refresh. It feels more like a gel-based serum than a traditional toner, and my skin loves it. It absorbs quickly without leaving any sticky residue, leaving my skin feeling hydrated and refreshed. Plus, the packaging is super cute, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous sample size.

LUÉ BY JEAN SEO Erase To-Go, 10 sachets - Retail Value $6.00

I’m not usually one for DIY masks, but the Erase To-Go packets from Lué by Jean Seo have totally won me over with their simplicity. These little sachets are perfect for travel. Just add a bit of water (or toner) to the powder, and it instantly turns into a creamy paste. I love how mess-free and easy the process is (no measuring required). You apply it, wait for it to almost dry, and then rinse it off for an on-the-go exfoliation. While it’s not something I’d use daily, it’s a fantastic option to toss in my overnight bag.

VASANTI BrightenUp! Exfoliator, 120 g - Retail Value $34.00

The Vasanti BrightenUp! Exfoliator is hands down my favorite product from this box! I’m obsessed with how fine the exfoliant is; it reminds me of Dr. Brandt’s microdermabrasion products. It effortlessly buffs away dead skin, leaving my face feeling incredibly smooth and refreshed, like I’ve just had a mini facial. The light, fresh scent is a nice touch, but what really excites me is the full size of the product. It’s such a treat to get this much in one box, and I’d be thrilled to receive more skincare products of this size in the future. Total win!

The Verdict

This was an amazing month for Birchbox! The major highlight for me was the Vasanti exfoliator, a microdermabrasion-like product that effectively buffs away dead skin without any irritation, leaving my skin feeling smooth and refreshed. Vitamasques’ jelly toner was another huge win as a gel-like toner that hydrates and refreshes skin fast. I can always use a solid cleanser, and this gel-based Vitamin C brightening cleanser for Rodial really gets the job done well without stripping away moisture. No irritation either, despite my sensitive skin. I found the sorbet cream from [Comfort Zone] to be a lovely cream-gel hybrid that delivers lightweight hydration without any sticky feeling after fully absorbing. OneKind’s nighttime moisturizer is something I’ll be saving for the cooler weather, but ultimately, it excels in hydrating my skin deeply without clogging pores. Lastly, the to-go sachets of Lué by Jean Seo… While they aren’t something I’ll reach for on a consistent basis, these convenient, travel-friendly DIY masks are great to have on hand, quickly transforming from a powder to a creamy paste for a quick, mess-free exfoliation. Overall, I was incredibly impressed with this month’s box. I personally always appreciate a box that’s heavy on the skincare, and this curation has truly delivered, aligning with my preferences; plus, the value is definitely there.
