First Impressions

This month is the “SheaMoisture Takeover Box,” featuring a sleek black signature Cocotique bag adorned with a classic phrase that anyone can benefit from: “Self-Care Always Matters.” But I do have to say, I really don’t enjoy the material used for these bags nowadays; in the past, it used to be more of a cotton / canvas blend.

The contents of the box arrived protected by foam packing.

The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.

Now, on to the items!

SHEAMOISTURE Manuka Honey and Yogurt Strengthen and Protect Oil, 97 ml - Retail Value $10.99

I’m no stranger to SheaMoisture, and I can always use more hair oil, so I was thrilled to see the Manuka Honey and Yogurt Strengthen and Protect Oil in this month’s subscription box. This lightweight formula has been working nicely for my thick 3C curls, offering just the right amount of hydration without weighing my hair down. While I tend to use a bit more than recommended (thanks to my full head of curls), the oil absorbs beautifully, leaving my hair shiny, healthy, and frizz-free. I appreciate how gentle the formula, infused with Amla and Karanja Seed oils, is on my sensitive scalp, and the subtle scent is pleasant without being overpowering. Plus, the added heat protection and humidity control make this oil a must-have in my hair care routine. A definite win for anyone looking for both moisture and protection!

SHEAMOISTURE Bonding Oil, 97 ml - Retail Value $13.99

Like I said, I can never have too much hair oil, and this SheaMoisture Bonding Oil has quickly earned a top spot in my collection. With a formula featuring Amla oil and shea butter, this oil has been perfect for taming my 3C curls. I’ve noticed it works wonders on smoothing split ends and keeping frizz at bay, while also giving my curls great definition without weighing them down. The lightweight texture absorbs quickly, leaving my hair feeling nourished, silky, and soft, without any greasy residue. I also appreciate the subtle scent that doesn’t linger too long. Formulated specifically for types 3 and 4 hair, it’s exactly what my curls need. I’m interested to see how the strengthening benefits hold up with regular use, but so far, I’m loving how healthy my hair looks and feels.

SHEAMOISTURE Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie, 283 g - Estimated Retail Value $11.64

I was a little hesitant about the SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie at first, especially since I usually avoid floral-scented products. But this one surprised me, having a sweet, nutty aroma that’s actually a delight. As a curl cream, I expected a thicker texture, but it surprised me by being lightweight, easy to apply, and never leaving my curls feeling heavy. It’s perfect for wash days when I need something quick yet effective. What I appreciate most is how it enhances my curls without the dreaded dry, flaky aftermath that so many other creams leave behind. My curls stay defined, bouncy, and hydrated, which makes this product a total win for me. The soft, non-greasy finish is another major bonus!

SHEAMOISTURE Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen and Restore Treatment Masque, 283 g - Estimated Retail Value $11.64

This month’s box is definitely all about the curls, and the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen and Restore Treatment Masque is a standout product. While it does require a bit of time, from start to finish, the deep conditioning results are worth it. I don’t color-treat my hair, but I’m always on the hunt for products that strengthen and thicken, and this masque has been working wonders for my curls. Despite my usual dislike for castor oil’s scent, this product does a great job of masking it. The creamy formula feels luxurious, and after using it, my curls are softer, more manageable, and frizz-free. Detangling has never been easier. Whether your hair is dry or just needs a little extra TLC, this treatment delivers professional-level results.

SHEAMOISTURE Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen and Restore Leave-in Conditioner, 340 ml - Estimated Retail Value $10.48

The summer dryness has really taken a toll on my hair, so this SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen and Restore Leave-in Conditioner was a welcome addition to this month’s products. Like the other products in this line, it shockingly does a good job of masking the typically strong castor oil scent, which was a relief for me. From the moment I applied it, my curls felt instantly hydrated, soft, and beautifully defined. What I love most is that it leaves no greasy residue or white cast, even after multiple uses. My curls stay light, touchable, and frizz-free; definitely a game-changer. If you’re looking for a leave-in conditioner that hydrates without weighing down your curls, this one is a good option.

Verdict

This was a solid month for Cocotique! I can never have enough hair oil, so the inclusion of both the strengthen and protect oil and the bonding oil is much appreciated. Both have a rather lightweight formula that absorbs quickly, defines curls, cuts down on frizz, and nourishes and hydrates hair. The treatment mask offers true deep conditioning that leaves hair feeling soft to the touch while strengthening curls simultaneously. Another great hydrating product is the leave-in conditioner, which keeps curls light, soft, and frizz-free, without any greasy residue left behind. Lastly, the curl cream… It has a delightfully sweet, nutty scent and keeps my curls looking defined without any flaking. Overall, I thought this was a good month; it contains a lot of the hair essentials that someone with my kind of hair will always need, and the value is there as well.
