Cat Lady Box is a monthly subscription box for cat ladies (or anyone who is crazy about cats)! The $34.99 per month Cat Lady Box has 2-3 cat-themed items – wearables, items for the home, books, etc, while the $39.99 per month Crazy Cat Lady Box contains everything from the Cat Lady Box plus a few items just for cats.

This is a review of the Crazy Cat Lady Box.

ACTIVE DEAL: 20% off your first box

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

As soon as the box arrives, you know your cat-loving heart is in for a good time. Everything arrives in a brown cardboard box with a black cat silhouette on it. Once you open it up, you can expect to find anything from cat-themed jewelry, clothes, home decor, and more. If you subscribe to the Crazy Cat Lady box, you'll also get a few treats for your furbaby, too.

This box does come with an info sheet, and each month they feature custom artwork. This month's artist was Karen Obuhanych!

The Breakdown – What’s Inside The October Crazy Cat Lady Box

First, let's meet the cat that will be helping me to review this box. If you've been reading my MSA reviews for a while, you may remember my old cat, Duchess. Duchess is no longer here with me, and after a few months, I felt ready to get another cat companion. Meet Sir Goose! I adopted him when he was one month and twenty-two days old, and he was 2.2 pounds. Now he is almost eight months old, and he loves toys- I have yet to find a toy he won't play with. Now, let's dive into my October box from Crazy Cat Lady!

Black Cats Rule Sweatshirt - Listed Value $28.99

I was so excited for the October box when I saw this was a spoiled item- I love everything soft and cozy about these cooler months, and this looked like such an awesome sweater to lounge around in with a fun black cat wearing a crown motif. I ordered my normal size, and unfortunately, this sweater was tight on me in the chest and shoulders that made it a little uncomfortable to wear. This is lined with soft, cozy fleece, and I think that fleece lining is what made this a less than purr-fect fit. Luckily, the Cat Lady Box is pretty size-inclusive- they go up to a size 5x, so I can always adjust my size to a bigger one for future boxes.

Ombre Black Cat Concrete Planter - Listed Value $18.99

I love this planter. I can't actually keep any plants alive, but this small size is actually great to be repurposed as a pen or makeup brush holder. If you can keep plants alive, this has a nice weight to it thanks to the cement it is made out of, and it has a drainage hole at the bottom, too. I love the cute black cat ears that stick out of the mouth of the planter- every time I see this on my shelf, it makes me smile.

I actually realized this was the perfect size to hold my travel vials of perfume, so that is currently what I am using it for!

Black Cat Puff Keychain - Listed Value $9.99

You may think I am crazy (I am reviewing the Crazy Cat Lady version of this subscription box), but this keychain actually really gives me Kate Spade Vibes. I don't have any of the purses from Kate Spade that were cat-themed (like this one or this one), but I always thought they were adorable. This keychain is equally adorable, showing the ears, whiskers, and nose of a black cat before turning into a soft, puffy ball.

Note- If you subscribe to just the Cat Lady Box, you won't receive the next two cat toys I review.

Meowgical Feline Frog Catnip Toy - Listed Value $5.99

I wasn't actually sure what I was looking at when I first saw this toy- thankfully, it had a tag to help me realize this catnip-filled cat toy is actually a black cat wearing a (removable) frog costume. How cute is that? It feels perfectly timed for the spooky season!

Goose didn't love this as much as he loved the other toy, but he still played with it for a little bit. I have no doubt this will eventually be dragged under the bed to his lair with the rest of his toys.

Goose also has a costume, but it's not a frog- it's a shark! (Don't worry- as soon as the photo was snapped he went back to being a regular Goose-err, cat).

Flappy Bat Cat Catnip Toy - Listed Value $5.99

This was a really fun toy. The body of the bat is stuffed with catnip, and the thin wings are made of black felt. I loved the wings because it allowed me to dangle the toy in front of Goose and play tug of war with him.

Goose gave his stamp of approval, too! He actually made quick work of those felt bat wings, but the body of the bat is much more durable and has been getting batted around my living room floor.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $39.99 per month + free US shipping.

Value Breakdown:

  • Sweatshirt: $28.99
  • Planter: $18.99
  • Keychain: $9.99
  • Feline Frog Toy: $5.99
  • Bat Toy: $5.99

Everything in this box is unique to the subscription, so I have to go by listed values. The listed values add up to $69.95, which is about $30 more than the cost of the box.

Key Takeaways

This was my first month trying the Crazy Cat Lady Box, and it really made me smile. I love the sweatshirt design so I am a little bummed it doesn't fit perfectly, but that is the way the cookie crumbles sometimes (and I can use that for extra motivation during my Noom journey). I was really delighted by the planter sent, too- it's both charming and really practical, even if I don't plan on using it for actual plants. It was really fun to be able to share this subscription box with Goose, and I love being able to look forward to the monthly treat exploring this box with him.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I am so sorry for your loss. My cat Chief is 16 and I am 77. It will be devastating when he passes as I feel I will be to old to get
another one but the thought
of not having one sounds awful too. I don’t know what to do. Suggestions?

I’ll cross my fingers you don’t have to make that decision, Ann! But if you don’t have a family member who could take care of a cat if something happened, what about adopting an older shelter cat? I know they’re rarely adopted out and would cherish a loving home.

I’m so sorry about Duchess but am glad you have Sir Goose in your life! He is simply adorable and I love his name. One of my cats, Lucy, is nicknamed Goose! I’m happy you liked your first CLB. I’ve subscribed for years and their stuff is always so cute and useful. Their customer service is awesome and will always replace an item that is broken or doesn’t fit.

This is just a review site you need to go to the crazy cat lady box site and let them know. It’s probably easier to contact your bank and do a charge back though.

This is one of my favorite boxes to get every month because I find a use for everything and my cat goes crazy for the toys, no matter what it is! I get a lot of keychains in boxes so what I do is I take off the key ring part and put my own twine on it to make a Christmas ornament for my tree.

I may need to steal this idea, Emily!

I cannot get over how cute that frog catnip toy is! And so sorry to hear about Duchess. Sir Goose is adorable and I’m so glad you have him!

Love Goose! Contact the company, Sue will take care of you and send a better fit on the sweatshirt. When I first subscribed, I chose the wrong size and they sent a better size right away and told me to keep the other for gifting. Best customer service in the business!

This was my first box, as well … my cats love the frog/cat toy, and I appreciate the minimal, elegant design of the planter (vs. something “cutesy”). The fit of the sweatshirt isn’t great – I wish they’d offer women’s sizes in addition to unisex – but I have to applaud their fantastic customer service: I emailed about exchanging for a different size and they promptly and pleasantly sent another. I’d definitely get another box. 🙂

I’m a longtime subscriber to this box and their shirts usually are more unisex and run big. So I actually size down one. The sweatshirt fits me fine, but I agree it runs smaller than their usual stuff. Hope you order more boxes. They are a great company and have amazing customer service!

Oh, I’m so happy to hear this! I’m glad you were able to exchange for a different size. I’m looking forward to the November box 🙂

The planter was a surprise delight this month for sure.

I’m using mine to hold my business cards!

Didds

Didn’t care for this box at all! The sweat shirt fit me badly, I don’t grow plants, and the keychain/purse charm isn’t anything I would use. My cats went CRAZY about the toys though.

Jessica Hapak

Hi Didds!
Bummer that the sweatshirt didn’t fit how you wanted. I’m glad your cats enjoyed the toys as much as Goose did!
