First Impressions

When you open the box, you’re greeted by the booklet that explains the flavors and the idea behind this dessert-inspired assortment of teas. The box is the perfect size to double as a tea holder, which I really appreciated.

The booklet includes an interview that sheds some light on this month’s flavors and inspiration. It also includes a discount code to try the desserts that inspired these teas in the first place.

I only wish the booklet contained specific information about each tea blend, which would be helpful and interesting to read, given the flavors.

The Teas

The Almost Tea box comes with six distinct flavors: Raspberry Caramel Fudge, Cinnamon Toast Munch, Brown Butter Bourbon Bliz, Chai Caramel Latte, Double Chocolate Chunk, and Spiked Apple Cider.

Given that I had no idea what these teas were, I was grateful for the instructions on the back of each sachet. I appreciated that the instructions changed for each tea, guiding you to ensure each tea flavor received the right amount of steeping time and water. I also liked how they talked about the caffeine level in each flavor; it was outlined in a clear-to-understand way that I haven’t seen before.

Each sachet also has something they call “Almost Anecdotes.” While fun and interesting, part of me wish they were more related to the flavors or the history of desserts. Some just felt very random and just not related to the brand at all.

I appreciated the compostable sachets–each tea sachet is fully compostable! The tea bags are made of soilon, a material derived from corn starch. No string or paper tag, so you can discard the entire bag after use.

Looking at the pictures of the desserts, I was nervous to try these teas. I was pretty sure they would all be utterly sweet and not as enjoyable as I’d like a cup of tea to be.

The Flavors

But you’re all here for the flavors, not for my opinions on the packaging. So, here it goes.

  • Raspberry Caramel Fudge: A black tea with hints of raspberries. It’s certainly fruity and berry, but don’t expect it to be your traditional berry tea. This one has lingering notes of caramel that make it a bit sweeter.
  • Cinnamon Toast Munch: A rooibos tea with cinnamon infusions. The cinnamon aroma was definitely present here, but the flavor isn’t as cinnamon-y as you’d expect. The rooibos tea is stronger, so you get a more balanced flavor.
  • Brown Butter Bourbon Blitz: A pu'erh tea with a rich buttery flavor. You can certainly taste the caramel flavor in this one. Still, the base tea counteracts this a bit to keep this tea very comforting and soft.
  • Chai Caramel Latte: A honeybush tea that smells just like your favorite chai tea. I wish this one brought that caramel flavor more because it would taste amazing. If you get this box, start with this one, as it’s the most classic flavor of them all.
  • Double Chocolate Chunk: This is a black tea, so the chocolate pairs marvelously well with it. I wish this also came in a candle because the scent was so divine. I want my house to smell like this all season long. The flavor has some hints of chocolate, but don’t worry, you won’t feel like you’re drinking hot cocoa; it’s still tea!
  • Spiked Apple Cider: Out of the box, this was my favorite. It’s a rooibos tea with an infusion of apple. It’s so comforting and delicious. I actually had two cups the first day I opened the box.

My Final Thoughts

I am a huge fan of creative teas. Overall, Almost provides some super interesting teas to try. Almost makes it a whole experience as you try to figure out the flavors based on the pictures and the idea. They do a great job balancing the dessert flavor with the base tea, so it feels enjoyable and not just like a dessert. This is a great option to introduce people to the tea world, or get the seasoned tea lovers in your life out of their comfort zone!

Now, at $26 per box (when prepaid for a year), it’s slightly more expensive than trying out teas from the grocery store. However, you can’t find these flavors there! And even after searching online for other dessert teas, I could only find a handful of them, and those were either at the same price point or more expensive.

If you enjoy tea regularly and like to discover new flavors, the Almost Tea box might be a fun one to add to your subscriptions.

Keep track of your subscriptions by adding this box to your subscription list or wishlist!

Right there on the box it says it is a ” Sister Brand” of Universal Yums, yet the reviewer doesn’t mention this as far as I can see. Universal Yums is a company I really like. This is basic info prospective customers should have been told in the review.

Also, in the US, calorie and other nutritional info beyond caffeine is supposed to be listed somewhere. I am one of many people who like tea but are not consuming large amounts of simple carbs. I’d like to know the content a bit better.
Disappointing to not know whether I could consider adding this tea subscription after dropping ” Sips By”.

Also, I’d like to know how many calories and how much sugar is in each tea package. Some of are not consuming many simple carbs for health reasons.
I did not see a photo of the entire package in the review to know the info. Will check again.

Quick question: Will each month be dessert teas?
.
I have a dear friend who lives across the country and I always send a tea gift for the holidays but that sounds like a LOT of sweet-ish teas for a whole year.
.
Thanks for reviewing new and different subs – very helpful!
