The GQ Box is a quarterly men's subscription from GQ magazine that's $59 per quarter (or $216 per year with an annual subscription) and ships for free. The box features $200 worth of products the editors have curated after testing and finding them to be the best in their class. Although this subscription is geared towards men, women love it as well.
As of this review, GQ is currently offering a discount for new subscribers: Only $39 for your first box, if you buy quarterly. Or $176 for an annual subscription. That comes out to $44 a box. In addition, new subscribers get an additional item.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions
GQ's classic box is always a surprise and welcome sight. Aside from the look of the box, my real first impression is always the weight of the box. That often lets me know if it's full of items or if there will be vouchers to send away for the big items. This was one pretty full, but still had one voucher. I always appreciate the brochure of contents that lets me know about what's inside and often includes a discount code for my next purchase.
Inside the GQ Fall 2024 Box
Rains Addis Fleece Half Zip - Retail Value $90
This quarter's hero item is a welcome one: a pull-over fleece from Rains, which showed up just as the temps here in Pennsylvania dipped into the 50s overnight. This Addis Fleece Half Zip is a great transitional piece for those days where the temperatures fluctuate wildly. In other words, perfect for autumn. This unisex design is easy-to-wear, lightweight and versatile. The fleece features a stand-up collar, half-zip closure, and flatlock details. It's wonderfully comfortable and perfectly-timed for the beginning of fall.
Note: GQ lists this fleece as $105, but at the time of this post, RAINS is selling it for $90.
Anthony Black Eau de Toilette - Retail Value $75
If you're like me, you love the smell of fall. The leaves, the pumpkins, the campfires. And if you're running around a lot, don't forget to smell good yourself. Try this scent from Anthony. The website says the fragrance is "designed exclusively for active men" and "perfect for pre and post-workout invigoration." Despite this, I'm still going to use it. The site also lists several top, middle, and base notes that sound lovely, such as "fiery ginger," "zesty bergamot," and "creamy tonka bean." I don't quite have the nose for that sort of thing, but I can assure you the scent is mature, invigorating, and, of course, gentlemanly. I'm also very pleased that we were given a full-size bottle and not a measly sample. I think I'll certainly put this in my toiletry bag, even if I am not an active man.
Men & Nails Luxury Medium Grooming Nail Kit - Retail Value $65
Quit biting your nails and take a look at this traveler's grooming kit from Men & Nails. A 12-piece, stainless steel tool kit for your hand, foot, and nails. What is included: two fingernail clippers, a toenail clipper, nail file, dead skin fork, tweezers, scissors, cuticle pusher & cutter, nail cleaning pusher, ear pick, acne needle, and cleaning brush. They all come in a luxury leather travel tri-fold and an optional nylon pouch. I'd have to watch an instructional video on how to use some of these tools, but I very happy to have them and in such a compact and neat case.
Southern Scholar Lehmans Mid-Calf Socks - Retail Value $25
I love these regal socks from Southern Scholar. The navy sock with contrasting white micro-squares will be perfect for nearly any look. The site says the garment is made from a one-of-a-kind signature material blend, 200 needle count knitting construction, and has a custom-built ribbed cuff. They are soft, comfortable and durable. They are easily the nicest pair of socks I own. I can't wait for a reason to dress up.
Naturelab Tokyo Perfect Clean 2-in-1 Scalp Scrub + Shampoo: Yuzu - Retail Value $19
Inspired by traditional Japanese beauty rituals, this 2-in-1 scalp scrub & clarifying shampoo from Naturelab Tokyo cleanses, exfoliates, and hydrates for revitalized, radiant locks. The probiotic-rich sake water balances the scalp microbiome. Sugar crystals remove build up without drying out the scalp. Hyaluronic acid hydrates strands for visible shine. Platinum fiber adds a glossed finish. And it smells great too; the fresh scent of a freshly peeled Japanese yuzu (citrus). While I don't have the locks of hair I once had, I can vouch for the exfoliating properties of this lovely product.
Gainful Hydration Drink Mix Max Recovery - Retail Value $15
This plant-based hydration supplement from Gainful was designed by sports nutrition experts for intense electrolyte replenishment. This mix is balanced with just enough sugar to activate sodium-glucose cotransport, bringing hydration to your body's cells faster than water alone. Drink this dynamic hydration formula before, during or after your workout to replenish and recover. All delivered with a tangy tropical mango flavor. As I said early, I'm not a particularly active person. So I only drink these supplements for reviews. This was one was very tasty.
Additional Offers
This quarter's box included an additional coupon for a deal from Du/er, Factor_, and GQ itself. I think this is a great way to spread the word, and they will be perfect for some subscribers. However, I don't count them toward the value of the box. I will say that DU/ER pants are pretty pricy. So 50% off can save around $60. If you were looking to buy a pair, this would make now a good time.
Verdict
I thought this installment of GQ Box was a great. Several thoughtful items and a few good products. The fleece is perfect for fall. I'm glad they with something wearable rather than, say, a small speaker. I loved the full-sized cologne. The grooming kit makes me want to up my nail game. The socks have me wanting to get dressed up. I like the scalp scrub as a shampoo alternative. And the hydration powder was ok. Basically, this whole box is going right into my routine. So that's a big win and exactly what a gentlemanly box should be.

Let's Talk About Value
By my calculations, this box clocks in at around $289. That is considering the lower price on the fleece. It does not include the DU/ER offer, which could save you around $60. Even so, that's more than five times the cost for GQ Box. That's a value you can come to expect from this subscription.
For $59 for this box, here's approximately what you're paying for each item:
- Fleece ($90): $18
- Cologne ($75): $15
- Nail Kit ($65): $13
- Socks ($25): $5
- Scrub/Shampoo ($19): $3.80
- Hydration Mix ($15): $3
