kidpik is a seasonal clothing subscription for kids sizes 2-16. You can choose to have a box delivered every 4, 6, or 12 weeks and all designs are unique to kidpik so you can’t find these pieces and accessories anywhere else. There is no styling fee, returns are free, and if you keep your entire box, you get a 30% discount on your items.

Greetings from me and my five-year-old daughter, L! We are new to kidpik, and so excited to explore what gems they have waiting for us.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

If adults love unboxing subscriptions to see what goodies await them, why wouldn't kids? This is L's first clothing subscription, so it was a joy to dig into. She wanted to wear some of the items right away.

kidpik September Review

When you sign up for kidpik, they ask you a few questions related to your child's size and style preferences. Clothing sizes range from 2 to 16 and shoes range from Toddler 7 to Youth 6. You can choose multiple style preferences, colors, and designs, and opt out of things as well. It's very customizable!

When you check out, you have the option to return, exchange or donate the items for free using the postage-paid envelope they provided. This process is very easy and quick. Once the items are sealed inside the bag, place it in your mailbox with the flag up, and off they go!

Inside our box, there was a pamphlet with a thank you note on the front and kidpik's contact and social media info on the back. Also provided is information on exactly how the checkout process works along with our invoice. Our total came to $205.40 for all 8 items, but with the 30% discount for keeping all items, the total comes to $143.78. That's a savings of $61.62 on these items if we choose to keep everything.

Thermal Drop Waist Dress in Light Heather Grey - Retail Value $27.80 (30% off Price $19.46)

First up is the coziest thing imaginable for fall. It's a cotton-blend thermal dress with raglan sleeves and a stretchy waistband. And, best of all, it has pockets! My daughter is just as mystified as the rest of us when her clothes don't have pockets, and is specifically fond of dresses that do. This dress also comes in several other sweet colors.

You'll see us jamming out with pretzel sticks throughout this review—it seemed only right to have a dance party try-on sesh. L is just starting to wear size 5, and the way she falls in kidpik's sizing is in a 5/6. This is great—it means we're starting out the season with fresh pieces that fit her now, but with a little room to grow, too. You can also see we rolled the sleeves, which so far are staying put nicely.

Poppy Floral Zip Cardigan - Retail Value $32.80 (30% off Price $22.96)

This zipper hoodie caught L's eye immediately. I think for the same cozy factor as the thermal dress! I can't decide whether it's black or dark blue, but either way it's got a floral print that we love for its hints of femininity without being over-the-top, and its super-soft fleecy interior. The zipper is quality, and my kid is able to zip it on her own. Score!

These photos show a little preview into what's next, which is matching sweatpants! L is more of a leggings gal, but something about having a coordinating set warmed her up to the idea of sweats. Worn together, they look incredibly cute and comfy, but not so loungey that they couldn't be worn out and about.

Poppy Floral Jogger - Retail Value $24.80 (30% Off Price $17.36)

The joggers, like the hoodie, are a cotton-polyester blend with a soft interior. They pull on with an elastic waist, as well as having elastic at the ankles.

Floral Cuffed Tee - Retail Value $17.80 (30% Off Price $12.46)

This was our favorite item of the box—a 100% cotton T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit and cuffed sleeves. The garden graphic is touched with glitter (that doesn't fall off, notably), which adds that extra little somethin' to make it exciting for a little kid.

You can see how pleased this little munchkin is to be wearing this soft tee! She kept it on for the rest of the evening, and changed back into it for school the next day. Now that's a testament to how much of a win it was for her.

Flare Cord Pant in Blush - Retail Value $32.80 (30% Off Price $22.96)

Ah! Flared cords! Ridiculously cute! This is the item I wish came in my size. I wasn't so sure how they would work for L, as she has a history of structured pants being too long. Speaking for the quality and design, though, I am very impressed. They're sturdy but with a little stretch, they have functional pockets, and this is just one of three colors they come in.

Alas, the cords were indeed too long for L. I was also curious how the waist might fit since she has an ample waistline, but the stretch in the material provided plenty of space to button comfortably. This is the first article of clothing from this box we set aside to send back.

Flower Embroidered Baseball Cap - Retail Value $9.80 (30% Off Price $6.86)

Umm...cute! This lightweight canvas hat is army green with a cluster of leafy flowers embroidered in. It has eyelets on top, a strap that adjusts with a buckle, and a slot for tucking the end of the strap into. I'm impressed with that quality—I've never seen a kids' cap that doesn't Velcro in the back.

L is a wearer of baseball caps, and so far she owns one to rep our city's baseball team and another from our nearest beach. This is her first "fashion" cap. I tightened it as far as it would go and it's still a little roomy for her, but we decided to hang onto it as something to grow into, as she'll pass her others to her little sibling soon.

Metallic Stone Sneaker - Retail Value $36.80 (30% Off Price $25.76)

Shoes can be so tricky for kids, and L has one pair of sneakers from Ten Little that fit her well, but she could really use a backup pair. These metallic rose gold ones caught her eye and really made her smile! I don't think she's ever seen sneakers so fun. They feel like leather really convincingly but they're actually machine washable—amazing. We also loved the pull-on design, and of course, the sparkling rhinestones.

Unfortunately she determined that these shoes were too tight for her. I don't think she's ready to size up yet, so I would venture that it's simply the cut that doesn't work for her. She doesn't have particularly narrow feet, so I sense that the discomfort was in the toes. It can be hard for kids to identify what exactly isn't working for them when something doesn't fit. This was the 2nd item we set aside to send back.

Thermal Notched Tee in Aqua Haze - Retail Value $22.80 (30% Off Price $15.96)

Finally, L was send this boxy thermal shirt in a fun aqua color. It's lighter weight than the dress, and has some cute details like exposed seams, a notched neckline, a front applique, and cuffed sleeves. It also comes in quite a few colors.

This is another shirt I would gladly take in my size—and in fact, I do have something similar that I reach for often, just not in as great of a color. Perfect for a casual, cool day, but with a little style that sets it a part from a regular old basic. The color is a beacon of brightness in what is a somewhat dreary season ahead for us in a region, and we were made to smile by how it matched L's headphones. An easy keeper.

The Verdict

We are new to kidpik this month, and I was admittedly a little anxious as we awaited our box because L has pretty specific ideas about what she likes to wear. I wasn't sure how items that were selected for her by someone who doesn't know her would go over. But, I was pleasantly surprised, and I think she was too! I was incredibly impressed by the quality, we were both so delighted by the florals and colors, and the fit of everything was really versatile and sweet.

We chose two items to return in the included envelope: the corduroy flare pants and the shiny sneakers. Both would've been keepers had they fit. We chose not to exchange for different sizes because I think our specific notes on fit were more about a style incompatibility than a size issue. This happens! Of course this means the 6 items we did keep will retail at full price for us, but I still think they're priced reasonably, especially given the quality.

Our total for the 6 items we chose to keep is $135.80. This breaks down to $22.63 per piece. While that might feel a little steep for something like the baseball cap, it feels just-right for the T-shirt and thermal top, and like a steal for the sweatshirt, sweatpants, and thermal dress.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? kidpik curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well the season. You might get something that fits your son or daughter's style even better than the items that we received.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $0 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $205.99. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if we keep all 8 items, then we get a 30% discount. This would bring the price down to $143.78 for the 8 items, which is an average of $17.97 per item.
