May 2019 Loot Crate 'Nemesis' Review

Let's dive into our items!

Ghostbusters Terror Dog Pin

This hellhound is arguably not a 'good boy' but he sure does make a cool looking pin!

Ghostbusters Slimed Figure

Can you believe it is the 35th anniversary of Ghostbusters this year? Wow! This Bill Murray as Venkman figurine is the perfect way to celebrate. The details on this thing are pretty great and I love how Slimer is clear green plastic.

Jaws Drain Plug

Jaws was the first film that actually terrified me as a kid, even though I lived in a landlocked state where shark attacks were—predictably—impossible. I kind of really love this drain plug dedicated to everyone's favorite shark. It is made out of a heavier rubber material and does its job quite well.

Blade Runner Patch

I am not super familiar with Blade Runner, but my husband is into it. I am sure he will be charmed by this embroidered patch!

The Legion of Regrettable Superheroes: Half-Baked Heroes from Comic Book History - Estimated Value $24.95 (buy the non-Loot Crate edition here for $17.70)

FYI: This is a repeat item from July 2015! (Thanks Matt!)

Ok, I love books. I buy way too many. It drives my husband nuts! I especially love books like this that are more of the coffee table variety, and are image-heavy. As soon as I pulled this book from the box I started to giggle, because it is genius. A collection of the worst and failed superheroes, complete with their authorship info, years active, and general weaknesses.

My fave so far? On page 59, we discover a hero called Speed Centaur, who—you guessed it—is a centaur. Under his weaknesses? Sugar cubes.

Honorable mention: Page 27. "The Eye" is just a giant floating eye.

The Legion of Regrettable Supervillains: Oddball Criminals from Comic Book History - Estimated Value $24.95 (buy the non-Loot Crate edition here for $16.96)

FYI: This is a repeat item from October 2016! (Thanks Matt!)

I was also so excited to see a supervillain version of this book.

Worth mentioning: The Balloon Maker on page 16. He turns people into human balloons. What a fun guy!

Verdict: I thought Loot Crate was excellent this month because I love those books! The figurine was also really well done and I thought the Jaws sink stopper was cute and super unique. More like this, Loot Crate!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, You’ll see the current theme on the landing page – theme cutoffs are the 19th of each month at midnight EST.

ACTIVE DEAL: Build Your Own Custom Crate! No coupon needed - just use this link.

FYI - Loot Crate has shipping issues. We only recommend subscribing to any of their boxes if you are OK with boxes showing up late. (Possibly months late.)

Value Breakdown: This box is $24.99 ($19.99 plus $5 shipping a month) meaning each of the 6 items included has an average cost of $4.17.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Where is the t shirt for this month’s box? They owe us a T-shirt.

They stopped including shirts earlier in the Summer around May I think. T shirts will now be only sometimes. They did announce this on Facebook and Twitter and their website has been changed to reflect it. They absolutely should have emailed customers though since not everyone is on social media. They recommend one of their clothing crates if you want shirts but of course nobody in their right mind is going to do that. I wish Msa had let readers know about the new no shirt policy but it’s possible that nobody told msa either.

I’ve already contacted Liz about looking into Loot Crates shady business practices since laying off 150 employees in May and outsourcing their shipping. Little or nothing has shipped since then.

I’m not really sure why MSA is continuing to promote them in light of recent events. Just check out all the BBB complaints and the Facebook Loot Crate Delay Discussion Group. This is worse than the Julep debacle!

DO NOT give this company your money. You will only cause yourself frustration and aggravation…

I pre-ordered the Lord of Rings box in October 2018. The first box was supposed to ship in March of this year, with the others coming within several months later. It’s now July and I STILL haven’t received a single box. This company is the worst.

Matt

I’m shocked that you neglected to mention that out of the five items, three were overstock/repeat items. Only the Ghostbuster figure and Jaws drain stopper are new.

In fact those books were in the Vault not too long ago for a super cheap price.

This company is ripping people off. They use the money from new crates/sales, to fund the debt they owe to get the crates out.

Hey Matt, I just started reviewing this box back in March (I think?) so in all honesty, none of these items are repeats for me that I can remember. Thanks for the heads up!

Matt

Would you consider updating your review to state that the books are overstock items? The heroes version was in the July 2015 crate and the Villians version was in the October 2016 crate.

The fact that it’s an old product is bad for subscriptions like this.

BTW, your review itself was good.

Michelle

They won’t. Unfortunately Msa gives this company over the top positive reviews.

As usual Loot Crate gets an over the top positive review. 🙄

Hey Michelle! I wouldn’t classify this as one of my over the top positive ones. (You should check out my Margot Elena ones for true bliss!) I try to review things as I truly feel about them, and as far as Loot Crates go, I did enjoy this one. I totally get that people have mixed feelings on this subscription, and I do too, (especially with shipping issues) which is why we give a pretty direct disclaimer. I hope this provides some clarity!

Still waiting for my lootwear from December, February, March, April, May, June and July. I skipped January. I just don’t think August is going to be on time.

Omg, that’s a lot! I’m still waiting on my loot wear bundle and marvel crate from january. when i first contacted them i was told to have patience and that i could trust them to deliver. when i contacted them again months later i was told that the crates were now unavailable , but i could get a gift card to the loot vault as a compensation and «sorry for the inconvenience». 😐

It’s fun, but most of this seems to be overstock from years past. I have both of the books and the patch from years ago.
And the shipping delays are atrocious.

I recommend just buying items a la carte from Loot Vault. Choose what you want and you don’t have to wait months past the promised delivery.

Got myself a t-shirt from there a couple weeks ago and it arrived within a week. Meanwhile, my subscription box is 4 months late and no shipping notification yet.

The Legion of Regrettable Superheroes is definitely a repeat item from an earlier box considering I have it and I don’t get the box anymore.

Still waiting on my Loot For Her April and May.

Shipping is horrific. I did a 1 year Sports Crate subscription as a gift. Got the 1st box. 2nd box was to ship in February and it still hasn’t gone out. Obviously the other 2 that were scheduled after that haven’t shipped either.

Embarrassing since it was a gift. I just got them to agree to refund money on unshipped crates.
