The September 2024 Box
As a beauty enthusiast, I have been a subscriber to a slew of make-up boxes. But Medusa's Make-Up is still pretty new to me. When the opportunity to review this box arose, I jumped at the chance, and couldn't wait to see what it was all about. After my first box, I became obsessed - so what does September's box have in store?! Read below to find out!
Packaged in a pretty pink foil mailer, it was love at first sight! Adorned with sweet script and adorable make-up clip art, this subscription is already one of my faves! (And look at that cute bubble bag! We received it last month for the birthday month, so it is a duplicate, but I'm all for bonus inclusions!)
To start off the box, we received an info card that details the contents of the box, along with their retail values. This card is giving off retro vibes, and I am sooo here for it!
Medusa's Sweet Cheeks Double Dare - Retail Value $14.00
Over time I have been definitely taming down my blush game and usually opt for a really soft pink with minimal glitz and glimmer. The first item I received in this month's box was the complete opposite. Check out that insanely bright pigment! A brilliant magenta, this really is gorgeous and incorporates flecks of glitter, but could definitely create some "blush blindness" if not used carefully. I literally dabbed this on my cheeks with my finger for a hint of color, and that was all I needed to create a natural look. For those that like a heavy blush look, this is definitely for you! But for my make up goals, the "Pinky Swear" version they have on their website would have been a little more functional.
Medusa's Lip Oil Pomegranate - Retail Value $14.00
The next item I received was this cute square container of lip gloss. Though bright red, it really goes on pretty colorless and creates a hydrating look. Made with Coconut Oil, Argan Oil, Vitamin E and Shea Butter, this is vegan and naturally colored. With a small brush wand, this is clean to apply and is great for everyday wear. A perfect inclusion to anyone's purse, I tote this around with me on the daily!
Medusa's Lip Stick Fired Up – Retail Value $14.00
When it comes to fall, I definitely like to incorporate a fun lippie to the mix, and we received just that. Here I received the "Fired Up" version, but found it to be a lot more pink in real life than the website photo showed. Even in these photos, the lipstick itself looks red, but it was definitely more pink. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but am curious if it was labelled incorrectly. Anyways, this formula was actually pretty darn good, and the addition of glitter made for some dimensional fun. Sprucing up all sorts of outfits, I have worn this color a lot, and it wears pretty dang well! (See below for a photo this lipstick on.)
Medusa's Matte Eye Dust – Retail Value $9
Up next was a small pot of eyeshadow, in a matte rust color. The container lists "Iron Oxide" on it, and I had to sort of chuckle, because my sister works at an iron ore mine, and considers this "tac dust". Our local four wheeling trails are made from this rock, and after a day of riding, we end up covered in this material, and wouldn't dream of wearing it as makeup! That being said, this wasn't my favorite color, but I did mix it in with my usuals for a little bit of a rusty hue, and it turned out to be a nice change. Would I go out and purchase this eyeshadow? In this color, no, but maybe in the green!
Medusa's Glam Rock Eyeshadow 1971 – Listed Value $12
Now this is more like it! This eyeshadow is much more my style as its more of a neutral tone with traces of violet AND has a shimmer to it! Easy to apply from the little pink pan, this helped me a create a smokey eye very nicely and could be built up from a natural look to a more extreme one. I am definitely a fan of this inclusion, and wouldn't mind a few of the other "Glam Rock" versions in future boxes!
BONUS! Blush Brush – Listed Value $8
I am always a fan of bonuses and this month we received not only the bubble bag, but this blush brush too! Featuring a unicorn horn style handle (with glitter in it, of course) and a pink brush, they couldn't have made it any more fun! Perfect for applying a teeny tiny amount of the bright blush, I blended and blended and blended away with this brush to create a naturalish look. A fun way to end this month's box, I really was pumped about the design of this thing!
Here you can see the look I created from the items in this month's box. As you can see, I blended the blush into a barely there look. The eyeshadows mixed nicely together, and I love, love, love that lipstick!!
The Verdict
For this month of Medusa's Make-Up I have some mixed feelings, and with a beauty subscription that is bound to happen eventually. After a fantastic August box, this box had some really cool products, but a few of the colors just weren't right for me. The lip oil was amazing, as was the lipstick. I really like the 1971 eyeshadow, and LOVE the blush brush. I'll save the bright blush colors for the younger generation, and I just can't with the red orange iron color eyeshadow. Overall, 4/6 isn't terrible, and I was happy to have another bubble wrap makeup bag! What do you think will be in store for October? I'm hoping for something Halloween themed myself!

Value Breakdown: I estimate I received $71.00 worth of items this month, which is more than three times the cost of the box! That's definitely a good value for $22.95!
