The Quiz

To get started, you complete an 8-question quiz to provide more details about your pet. I loved that they asked about allergies and activity levels. This helps them figure out the best meals and the feeding guide.

The Unboxing

I was surprised by the level of detail, and care poured into packaging these items. I genuinely enjoyed unboxing the welcome kit.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • Feeding Guide: Custom instructions on how to transition Cora to her new diet, including serving suggestions.
  • Food & Supplements: First, you see the dry food with the supplements. A layer then divides the frozen ice and the fresh food at the bottom. Everything arrived in perfect condition. The fresh food was still frozen when I opened my package.
  • Puptainer: I didn’t expect this to be included! They added a super cute scoop and containers to feed Cora and store the frozen food. I love that the feeding bowl has a silicone base so it doesn’t move. It’s all about the small details that get me.
  • Welcome Book: This super adorable booklet explains how Ollie works and how to serve the food. It also includes a poster of all the doggies who work there, which was a super cute touch.

The Breakout

The Baked Meals

Dry food was the ultimate test for me. Cora usually doesn’t love dry food, and I have to get creative with oils and add-ons so she eats them. Well, the moment I opened the bag, she was standing next to me. For the first time in her life, she was excited to eat dry food.

I got her the recipe with chicken, chickpeas, eggs, and veggies. Honestly, it was a meal I could eat myself! Since the kibble is baked, your pup gets the most nutrients from their food.

From my end, here’s what I noticed:

  1. The smell of the dry food is actually pleasant, which, in my head, means it’s made with actual human-grade ingredients that I can pronounce.
  2. Cora absolutely LOVED the food; she couldn’t even wait for me to put the bowl down.

Oh, and also I have no idea what the name of the reusable zipper on the bag is, but this is amazing! I’ve never used a zipper that provided such a perfect closure before.

The Fresh Meals

I’ve been looking into feeding Cora fresh food for quite some time, but I didn’t know what would be best for her. And, if I’m being honest, I barely have time to meal prep for myself, let alone for her! So, I was excited to try these.

I got four flavors: beef dish with sweet potatoes, chicken dish with carrots, turkey dish with blueberries, and fresh lamb with cranberries.

All packages arrived perfectly frozen. I’m happy that they’re ready to serve, and all I need to do is take them out the night before. The texture itself is very much like real food. I mean, if I made this myself, it would look exactly the same!

It was very easy to cut and serve, and the container made it a breeze to store. I also loved that you have four days to use it after opening it, so I don’t have to freeze and defrost it all the time.

When it comes to taste, I guess these are amazing. I fed Cora the turkey and blueberries dish first since she usually leaves the blueberries I give her on the ground. To my surprise, she devoured the dish in no time. She seemed pretty full and happy after eating.

And I know this might be TMI, but her stools have actually improved after she has been eating Ollie for a couple of days now.

The Supplements

When you build your meal plan, you have the option to add supplements. Since Cora is a senior dog, her skin/coat and hip/joint supplements are non-negotiables for me.

I’m usually a bit scared to order supplements I can’t smell. I know that sounds weird, but Cora’s a picky eater, and most supplements smell like, well, supplements, and she just avoids them.

To my surprise, she was so excited to try these! She absolutely loved them, and I’ve been using them as treats for her since I have to feed her three per day. So far, she’s obsessed with them. We’ll see if I notice any difference once she finishes them, especially in her skin and coat.

Based on the ingredients–salmon oil, sunflower oil, and yucca–I have high hopes!

The Add-Ons

I love that they include the puptainers and the measuring cup with your welcome kit. Honestly, it's such a thoughtful detail. And they’re super cute too! My husband even thought I had bought new containers for us to use!

My Verdict – Is Ollie Worth It?

Alright, so now let’s talk about money. Since this is a personalized subscription, it will depend on your meal plan. They offer:

  • Fresh: Starts at $1.57/per meal
  • Baked: Starts at $1.00/per meal
  • Mixed: Starts at $1.36/per meal

For Cora, a medium-large dog, if she ate Ollie exclusively, it would cost me around $42 per month. However, keep in mind that Cora only eats once a day, and that’s usually more than enough for her.

Ollie is worth it for us when I compare it to other brands or even if I try to bake/cook the meals myself. Given the time investment to make these meals, I feel Ollie is a no-brainer if we want to switch to fresh meals.

I’ve tried other fresh food services for dogs; honestly, none have surprised me as much as Ollie. The level of detail, the fast delivery (2-day shipping), and the quality of the ingredients make it so worth it for us.

Great review, thanks! My dog has been on Farmer’s Dog for about a year now. She loves it. I gave Ollie’s a whirl after seeing an article. Unfortunately, my pup didn’t really care for it. But based on your review, I may give it another try.
