Rocksbox Jewelry Review July 2024

Hey, y'all. I've got some bad news. Rocksbox is ending their rental subscriptions to focus on jewelry resale so this will be my final RB post.

Effective, July 1, 2024, Rocksbox is no longer accepting new Members. Effective August 31, 2024, all Memberships will be terminated (“Program Termination Date”). Members will not be charged for Memberships after July 30, 2024. Any products still in your possession must either be purchased or returned to Rocksbox prior to September 15, 2024. If you fail to return the products, you will be charged the full Member price plus any applicable taxes for the products in your possession. After the Program Termination Date, you may continue using the Site and purchasing products from the Site consistent with Rocksbox’s Terms of Use, but you will no longer be eligible to receive the benefits associated with a Membership.

Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wish list. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.

Concerned about cleanliness? Each piece is sterilized with alcohol jewelry cleaner using medical grade products and handled with jewelry experts wearing gloves.

This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.

Let's check out this month's delivery!

What I Received

Kendra Scott Layne Metal Statement Earrings, Retail Value $98, Member Price $98

About this item: A dramatic update on the Layne Statement Earrings, these floral drops are crafted in an open-frame design in 14K gold over brass with an ear post closure. They measure at 2.76"L X 1.58"W, and despite being cutout, they get heavy pretty quickly.

Condition: Great!

Review: Awesomely fun summer earrings that may not look heavy, but after a while they really start to tug and pull on the lobes.

Mignonne Gavigan Lorenza Floral Earrings, Retail Price $215, Member Price $215

About this item: Blooming with style and color, the vintage-inspired Lorenza Floral Earrings are crafted of casted enamel over 12k-plated gold brass with petals made of chiffon with crystal details. They measure at 2" long and 1.5" wide, and they weigh in on the much heavier side.

Condition: Practically brand new.

Review: They broke, but I was able to fix it! They're really heavy and the color is hard to match with anything. Still, a very pretty statement pair.

Lele Sadoughi Crystal Lily Earrings, Retail Value $198, Member Price $198

About this item: Crafted in multi-color pastel acetate, these oversized lily earrings feature a 3/4" crystal pave center and they measure at 3"x 2.5". They're lighter weight than the skater earrings, but they hang a little low and bend on the earlobe.

Condition: Great!

Review: Not sure how I managed to rent the same pair of earrings twice in just a few months, but it happened! I guess that's a testament to how much I've really started enjoying the Crystal Lily earrings, and I'll miss them!

The Verdict

So, this is farewell to Rocksbox! I've enjoyed discovering new brands and styles, and there were a few kinks that they needed to work through as well. I wasn't wild about the choices until they started adding newer and more luxurious brands like Lele, Kendra, and Mignonne Gavigan, and that's when it became more fun and exciting.

While I've never been into statement earrings, I learned to love the look, and dealt with the potential earlobe tears in the process. Thanks for a fun couple of years, RB. Best of luck with your new venture!

Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21 per month. At retail, the three pieces would've cost me $511.55. With my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items $10 discount, the $21 of Shine Credit (doesn't look like this applied this time), and my Rose Gold Rewards discount of $25, the total price for the three items goes down to $454.45. Yikes!

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Nope! Rocksbox is ending subscriptions.

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.
