What It’s Like to Subscribe to Scentbird

How Scentbird Works

Scentbird starts off by asking you a few questions in their quiz to help narrow down scents that match what you’re looking for.

After the quiz, you aren’t locked in to any specific scent. Scentbird recommends scents based on your preferences, but you can browse their full selection of perfumes and colognes and pick for yourself based on full descriptions with notes.

Each month, you can change your selection to explore new scents and find the ones that you truly love.

Pricing Options

Scentbird sends one travel-sized vial of perfume with ~140 sprays each month.

Commitment Total Price Upfront Price per Vial
Month-to-Month $16.95 $16.95
3-Months $44 $14.66
6-Months $84 $14
12-Months $144 $12

Example Perfumes

  • Versace - Dylan Blue Pour Femme - notes of Black Currant, Eglantine Rose, and White Woods
  • Rebecca Minkoff by Rebecca Minkoff - notes of Bergamot, Tobacco Accord, Jasmin Absolute, Karmaflor, and Patchouli Essence
  • Oscar de la Renta - Bella Blanca - notes of Lychee, Pear, Orange Flower, Jasmine, and Musk
  • Confessions of a Rebel - Get a Room - notes of Apple Tree, Mandarin Oranges, Cypress, Vanilla, and Clary Sage

Scentbird Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Easy way to explore a variety of new fragrances
  • Travel sized so you can use it anywhere - meets TSA carry-on regulations
  • No shipping cost or hidden fees
  • Receive a small card detailing the fragrance notes and inspiration with each vial

Cons

  • No returns or refunds, so planning ahead can help make sure you get what you want, although they do replace vials damaged in shipping
  • Not cost effective if you prefer to use the same scent every month
  • Some parts of their website are not intuitive

What Else You Should Know About Scentbird

Scentbird isn’t limited to just perfumes and colognes! They now also offer makeup, moisturizers, and other beauty products for the same monthly cost. Just add them to your queue and instead of a fragrance you’ll receive the product you chose for that month. This option is perfect for those who don’t use fragrances as frequently to fill out the rest of your beauty supply. They also have candles available if you want to fill your home with fragrances but not just in perfume form.

Is Scentbird Worth It?

For those looking to experiment with different fragrances, Scentbird is definitely worth it. The best way to try Scentbird is if you choose to get three vials every three months. This will give you a slight discount, plenty of time to experiment with different fragrances, but still be able to cancel if it doesn’t work out for you. You can even ask for female and male picks to share with your partner or someone else.

At $15.95 per month for a single fragrance delivered every month, the price can be a little prohibitive. However, if you’re one to try different scents all the time, it might be worth it after all. If not, I still suggest giving it a try, especially if you have your eyes set on a premium fragrance that you aren’t quite sure about yet. Scentbird offers you an opportunity to test-drive-it before you buy it, and that could be enough to make a one-time purchase worth it.

How Scentbird Compares to Other Top Perfume Subscriptions

Scentbird VS LuxSB: These perfume subscriptions are priced the same at $15.95 per month, however LuxSB sends you 9mL compared to Scentbird’s 8mL. LuxSB has many premium brands in their collection, however, which results in an upcharge of $5 per delivery whenever you select a premium brand. LuxSB focuses on more high end designer perfume names, but both of these subscriptions have a wide selection and are worth browsing if there are specific brands you’re after.

Scentbird VS Scent Box: Both of these perfume subscriptions send 8mL of fragrance in a vial that should last you the month, but ScentBird costs $15.95 and ScentBox costs $14.95 per month, or for their premium brands you can pay $19.95 per month instead. ScentBox has a much wider selection of fragrances to choose from but is less personalized with their recommendations, so if you like browsing then ScentBox could give you more options, but otherwise these subscriptions are very similar.

Scentbird VS Olfactif: Instead of 8mL of one scent per month, Olfactif lets you experiment even more with three different fragrances in 2mL vials each month. You aren’t able to choose with Olfactif, however, so you may be stuck with many more scents you aren’t interested in. If you do find one you love, you can purchase a full bottle for 20% off. Olfactif may be better for someone looking to experiment a little but ultimately find their new daily scent ASAP, whereas Scentbird is more likely to send you scents you’ll enjoy and keep rotating over the year.

"Scentbird, smell of success!"
Aug 27, 2022
I am in love with my scentbird subscription! I've tried other beauty type subscriptions in the past and always come back to this one. I love that the scents come in affordable travel sizes. Each month you can pick a new scent to try out. I've discovered some new ones that I would have never tried if I'd had to purchase the full size product without knowing if I even liked it. I have also found a few that I thought I'd like, and definitely did not. Through this process I've also learned a lot about the scent industry, for instance how to describe a scent. I never knew how complex it could be. One con, if any for me, is that customer reviews, while helpful if you just want to know overall who liked it. But, like me, not everyone is a perfume curator and so it's hard to tell sometimes what to expect. One reviewer will say too strong while another says soft and light.

I belonged to Scentbird for approximately 3 years. I always selected my own fragrances. I never had a problem clicking and dragging to change up my own queue. The sprays were generous so I thought the $15 /month was very fair. Over that time I contacted them maybe 3 times with questions. They always answered within 24 hours. I was with them during their move. Yes, they had one or two delays but they warned me previously. I can only complain about "upgrading". I doubled the scents per month but the price more than quadrupled! I was able to cancel within a few months after that but also because I have more than enough scents now. Candles and creams are not worth the price.

Scentbird is a great subscription service. I am a perfume addict and I like picking my own scents out for my queue. The bottles last quite long, more than one month per scent, and I put perfume on s couple of times a day. I have discovered in over a year at least 3 scents that are must haves for me. Their customer service is good, I have never had any issues. The value for product you get is great if you love perfume. Definitely subscribe if you're on the fence!

I subscribed to the monthly plan in December, but I like it so much I think I should change to the yearly plan and save myself some cash. I only have three full size fragrances in my collection so I am finding this is a fantastic way to try out new fragrances and some old loves that I haven’t owned for many years and I think the size is perfect for travel or throwing in my purse. I am torn though between adding scents I want to try to my queue or just getting the perfume of the month. With the first option I will get scents I already know I love and want but the second option lets me try and be surprised by scents I would never choose on my own. Indigo by Nest is a good example, I may not have picked it but I really love it and will get it again when this one is empty. Aaaahhhhh, decisions, decisions! 😀 Anyway, I think this subscription is a great deal and possibly could be the only way I will ever buy fragrances again. I would like them to add the ability to say "never send me" to a selection and I find their website to be glitchy. Other than that, so far no complaints.

I have received this subscription box for about 5 months now. I love it! I have not had any problems at all with product or delivery. I really like the idea of having a small version of a perfume to help decide if I like the brand or not. I am cancelling this subscription, however, because I can't keep up on the monthly scents I get. I started in April and have only been able to finish off one sample. Could be a good thing but I didn't want to start accumulating unused ones.

I am on month 3 of Scentbird and I love it. I wish I would have known about it earlier. I love trying mid to higher end fragrances, and I can do it without breaking the bank. Love it.

I subscribed to this service for almost a year. The fragrances were very nice but i found their website so user-unfriendly, i gave up. I tried to delete some fragrances and bump other fragrances up to the top of the list but was never able to get the hang of it. I may subscribe again if I can get over my frustration
